Beginning this Thursday, January 21, 2016, Park City will host some of the most unique storytellers and adventurous audiences in the world for the renowned Sundance Film Festival. This annual, 10 day Festival began in August 1978 in Salt Lake City in an effort to attract more film makers to Utah. In 1981, the Festival moved to Park City and changed dates from a late summer to a winter event where Park City’s powdery snow, luxurious resorts and winter wonderland make for perfect conditions for film fans to enjoy not only the movies screened at the Festival, but the natural allure of Park City itself.
At this year’s Festival, there will be over 120 films screened selected from more than 12,000 entries. The original staff of 13 has grown to more than 200 people, and more than 45,000 movie lovers are expected to attend and enjoy all that Park City has to offer.
Park City’s charm has been preserved (it was incorporated in 1884), and is only 30 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport. In between screenings at the Festival, you will find shopping, art galleries, fine dining, night life and, of course, epic skiing.
Getting around Park City by foot is easy with its many sidewalks and lighted pedestrian paths. If you prefer, there are also Free Festival shuttle buses and Park City Transit buses that stop at every Festival venue, theater and most hotels and lodging. Park City is thrilled to welcome all of the Sundance attendees, and we are ready to make your visit a memorable one as you enjoy the largest, independent film festival in the United States.
